Zweigelt is the most widely grown red grape variety in Austria. It was developed in the 1920s as a crossing of the more interesting varieties Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent.

This Zweigelt from Austria's Burgen land has a deep ruby color. Medium intensity of dark cherry and raspberry aroma, bitter and slightly vegetal, light cocoa note. Dry on the palate, with medium(+) acidity and medium alcohol. Medium intensity of ripe tannins. Fairly light body despite the 13% alcohol. Medium intensity of cherry and plum flavors, bitter finish, bitter as dark chocolate. Medium length. Drink now through 2013.

Nice, pleasant and undemanding red wine. But considering how straightforward it is makes the price tag seem a bit high.

In short:
Good
