Trockenbeerenauslese

The rarest of the five different styles within Germany's highest level of quality wine category known as Prädikatswein. Trockenbeerenauslese wines are often referred to as TBA.

It is made from grapes shrivelled by noble rot, yielding extremely concentrated, ageworthy wines with high residual sugar levels balanced by high acidity. Yields are very low and the harvest (by hand, with individual berries being picked based on ripeness level) is very time-consuming. Trockenbeerenauslese wines can only be produced when weather conditions allow botrytis (aka noble rot) to concentrate the grape flavors in clusters of raisin-like berries.
