The estate Riesling (i.e. the one that does not have a single vineyard mentioned on the label) from Weingut Günther Steinmetz comes in a 1 liter bottle.

The aroma is strikingly pure, wet pebble stone with a hint of flowers and citrus fruit. Not very intense but nevertheless attractive. It is dry ("trocken") on the palate and has a pleasantly low level of alcohol (mere 11%), which means that it is not only a good choice for the dinner table (since this Riesling also has invigorating acidity), but is also a good companion while reading Thomas Mann.

The palate is quite similar to the aroma: stones with a little bit of flowers and a dash of bay leaf spice. The length is shorter than the circumference of this liter bottle, but if nothing else it does leave a lasting impression of purity and freshness.

Just like the 2008 estate Riesling the 2009 vintage is a highly recommended Riesling at this price level.

In short:
Good
