Württemberg and Ahr are the only two wine regions in Germany which produce more red than white wine. Whereas Ahr's main grape variety is the noble Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Württemberg is the home of the lesser known Trollinger, a grape variety with high acidity that can produce good wines but all too often is vinified into a light wine with little character mainly in order to satisfy the thirst of the Schwaben (Württemberg has the highest per capita wine consumption in Germany).
