In regard to numbers, nothing compares to Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand. Although plantings of Riesling have almost doubled from 529 ha in 2002 to 928 ha in 2009 Riesling, is grown in just 3% of the country's vineyards. Although this is only a modest increase compared to mighty Sauvignon Blanc, the total of Riesling plantings in New Zealand are expected to grow further over the next few years.
