The 2010 vintage will not be remembered as one of the great vintages in the Finger Lakes. It was unusually warm all year long and towards the end of the growing season it started to rain. Nevertheless, there are some good 2010 Rieslings to be found from the Finger Lakes and Red Newt Cellars' is one of them.

It has a medium straw color and refreshingly youthful nose with a medium intensity of pear fruit and stone aromas. The latter is more pronounced in the dry Riesling than in the 2010 semi-dry.

It is dry on the palate, quite dry actually and has medium acidity. Medium alcohol and body. Medium intensity of citrus fruit and mineral flavors. Medium length with a mineral finish.

Although this Riesling is bone-dry it does have a pleasant soft mouthfeel, which may be attributed to the extended lees contact after fermentation. Perfectly drinkable now, but it will probably benefit from another year or two in bottle to balance the acidity a little more. This Riesling pairs well with salmon or with heartier dishes like beans and bacon stew. Drink now through 2015.

In short:
Good - Very good
