Red Newt's 2008 Dry Riesling Reserve has a pale straw color. The nose, which has a medium intensity of citrus and mineral flavors, shows already signs of development with smells of very ripe apple and hints of florals. Overall very mellow and resonant nose.
On the palate the Riesling is dry with a pleasant soft mouthfeel. There is a strong sense of minerality, the citrus flavors are fading towards the end and the finish is a taste of pure stones. The acidity is quite vivid and suggests further cellaring. The 2008 Dry Riesling Reserve benefits from being exposed to air, as it loses its initial tropical fruit note, which initially I found a bit distracting. After decanting the wine it tasted more interesting and showed its true floral and mineral Finger Lakes character. Drink now through 2016.
