Medium lemon color. Medium intensity of citrus fruit and mineral aromas. Sweet on the palate with balancing crisp acidity. Medium intensity of spicy peach and stones and a very very soft mouthfeel. The flavors last for long and end in a prickly finish - the minerality again, a stony ground lying bare after the wave of fruit retreats.

A very dense and dare I say powerful Spätlese, although yes I know a wine with 8% alcohol can't really be called be powerful. Or maybe it can. J. J. Prüm's 2005 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese is light in alcohol, but very saturated with spicy fruit flavors and heavy minerality.

When I poured the very last bit of it in a glass on the fifth day after I had opened it the Graacher Himmelreich was still fresh and fruity and just as spicy as it was on the first day. I am not sure if this is proof of the Riesling's very solid structure or must be attributed to the generous use of sulphur. Either case means that you can open this wine and then sip from it on many midsummer evenings without any worries. Just close your eyes and float on acidity through sweet dreams.

In short:
Very good - Excellent
