Weingüter Wegeler. Weingüter is the plural of Weingut, the German word for estate. This gives us a clue: there is not only one Wegeler estate. There are, indeed, two. The Weingut Oestrich in the Rheingau and the Weingut Bernkastel in the Mosel region.
The Weingüter Wegeler are dedicated to Riesling: 100% of their 60 ha of vineyards are planted to the world's finest white wine grape. The winery in Oestrich is the larger of the two, farming 45 ha of some of the Rheingau's best vineyards.
The wineries operate independently from each other, only distribution and marketing of the wines are centralized at the Wegeler headquarters in Oestrich. It's been like this for more than a hundred years, since Julius Wegeler founded the Oestrich estate in 1882 and added the Mosel holdings of the Bernkasteler Doctor in 1900.
The Wegeler Weingüter are still family-owned and are run by Anja Wegeler-Drieseberg & Dr. Tom Drieseberg geleitet. Both wineries are members of the VdP.
