The history of the Nikolaihof dates back to Roman times, thus making it the oldest winery in Austria. The winery has been owned by the Saahs family since 1894. The estate has also been biodynamic since 1971, which means that only wild yeasts are used for fermentation in old wooden casks. The wines are bottled on fruit days during a waxing moon, according to the biodynamic calendar.
In 2008 mildew reduced the already low yields of Nikolaihof by 30-40%.
