The Lauer 2008 Ayler Kupp Riesling "Senior" has a very mineral nose. The word "senior" refers to Lauer's grandfather who revered this style of Riesling. It has a medium intensity of ripe stone fruit, citrus, smoke and tarragon aromas.

It is off-dry on the palate and has vibrant acidity. Medium alcohol, which is well integrated. Very concentrated flavors of stones, hay, bay leaf, grapefruit and red apple. Despite its strength it has a soft mouthfeel with a medium(+) length.

A powerful Riesling with an almost chewy density despite its relatively low alcohol. At $26 it is not cheap, but the complexity and pure minerality of this Riesling is worth it.
