Immich-Batterieberg's 2010 C.A.I. is THE picture-book Riesling of the unusual 2010 vintage. It has incredible acidity, immense structure and is yet beautifully balanced.

It has a medium lemon color and is very youthful and bright on the nose with a medium(+) intensity of grapefruit, apple, hay and wet stones. Complex and beautiful aroma.

The C.A.I. (which are the initials of the estate's founder Carl August Immich) is dry on the palate with very crisp acidity. Medium fruit intensity of apple and citrus, but a pronounced mineral character. Medium length with a dry and very mineral finish. A Kabinett worth keeping for a few years.

This Kabinett may be light in body, but its acidity is merciless. Which makes it the ideal wine at any dinner table. But I recommend to savor this wine on its own, as a very intense Mosel Riesling experience of a very unusual vintage.

But a bit of history for you after all, you have to be a pretty serious German wine dork to have heard of Immich-Batterieberg. The Immich family has been associated with this land back to the early 15th century, though if there is a hero to this story it is Carl August Immich who between 1841 and 1845 blasted the **** out of a sheer wall of solid slate, thus creating the famous monopole of the estate, the Batterieberg which roughly translates to "demolition hill." (Thus the cannon on the label, though he really used dynamite.) stock market Alas, the Immich family sold the estate in 1989 and it withered away... until Gernot Kollman and some friends purchased the estate. The 2010 collection represents only the second vintage under Kollman. While this section of the Mosel has fallen out of the spotlight in the last few decades, it represents some of the greatest terroir in the Mosel.
