Channing Daughters 2008 Sauvignon

Channing Daughters 2008er Sauvignon

This is a blend of 95% Sauvignon Blanc (barrel-fermented in new and older Slovenian oak) and 5% Chardonnay (fermented in stainless steel). Flowery apple aromas with hints of oak. Not so much the tell-tale elderflower, which is so typical for Sauvignon Blanc from France and particularly New Zealand. Channing Daughters went the Friuli-Venzia Giulia route by using the Slovanian oak. It has more of a Chardonnay character than the 5% would suggest, but it does have Sauvignon Blanc's zestiness. Fruit, alcohol, acidity, all nicely balanced. Very good with charcuterie, especially smoked meats. Unlike Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand this wine will improve in bottle over the next 3-5 years.

In short:
Good - Very good
