Cascina Gilli's Barbera d'Asti no doubt is an extremely attractive wine with its ruby color and youthful, vibrant and delicately spiced smell of blackberry and black cherry. The wine is dry on the palate and has a medium amount of very ripe tannins. The alcohol is well integrated and the Barbera overall has a medium body. Medium(+) intensity of blackberry and cherry flavors, with a hint of sweet spices. Very smooth, flowery and alluringly elegant. Medium(+) length. Drink now through 2016.

The elegance and subtlety of this wine is unassumingly beautiful. I can handle tannins, I can handle acidity, no problem. Equally, I can handle a wine that is so attractively fruity and I want it to linger even more.

In short:
Very good - Excellent

Barbera d'Asti

Hello Chiara,

not complicated, but quite complex for an everyday wine! I think your Barbera d'Asti is a great example that "fruit" does not have to mean "simple". I love your Freisa dearly, as you know, but was really taken by the depth of a primarily fruity wine. Given the limited access to Cascina Gilli wines here in the U.S. I may indeed have to come to Italy to taste the rest of your wines!

Uwe, I am so glad you

Uwe, I am so glad you appreciate our Barbera!
It has a smoother and rounder character than our freisa, surely less tannins. But, as you correctly remark, it has a very attractive fruitiness that makes you want to drink it.
It is not a complicated barbera, only stainless steel, it is a daily wine and the idea behind it is to offer a nice "drinkability", a fresh and immediate style of Barbera d'Asti.
looking forward to presenting you our other wines here in cascina Gilli!
ciao,
chiara
