I tasted two different bottlings of this Kabinett Trocken, which were not remarkably but noticably different from each other. Busch rarely offers different bottlings. In this case some barrels of the Kabinett wine finished fermentation earlier than others and were bottled separately. The German wine law stipulates that different bottlings must be identified as such and are assigned different AP numbers (Amtliche Prüfnummer). Earlier bottlings also help quench the customer's thirst for wines of the new vintage and alleviate potential storage issues in the producer's cellar once all wines of a vintage have been bottled.

AP# 1635 018 07 08:
Pale lemon color. Medium(-) intensity of citrus fruit, gooseberry and minerality. Dry with crisp acidity and has a medium body with a medium alcohol level. Medium intensity of citrus fruit and minerality with hints of smoke and that slight bittersweet bitterness of orange marmalade. Medium(-) length with a grainy mineral finish. After decanting for 20 minutes the aroma takes on a heavier yellow apple note and the minerality becomes more prominent. The palate is a also spicier now. A rich wine and a far cry from a light picture book Kabinett, but typical Kabinett or not, in the end it's still a great wine in the glass.

AP# 1635 018 02 08:
Pale lemon color. Medium(+) intensity of bruised apple, pear, lemon and minerality. It is dry (trocken) on the palate, has medium(+) acidity level and a medium body with a medium alcohol level. Medium intensity of grapefruit fruit with lots of prickly minerality and deeper notes of spice. Medium length. Not as rich as the 07 bottling.

In short:
Good - Very good
