The label of Bloomer Creek's 2009 Riesling Morehouse Road Vineyard "Tanzen Dame" displays a watercolor painting titled "Lost Women" by local artist Jimmy Wright. This reminds a bit of Alsace, where it is not uncommon for wine labels to feature artwork by local Alsatian artists. The title "Tanzen Dame", however, is asking a lady to dance in German.
The wine has a medium lemon color and the nose shows already some development with a medium(+) intensity of ripe and succulent berry fruit, apple, gooseberry and a hint of mushrooms, giving it also a pleasant earthy quality.
It is slightly off-dry on the palate, but still much drier than I expected, given the low alcohol volume of only 10%. The dancing lady is a bit on the tart side, but far from mouth-puckering thanks to this Riesling's peculiar light sweetness. The sensation of biting in a tart red apple is rather unusual for a Riesling and so is its medium length with a very dry, almost tannic finish. An unusual but interesting Riesling. Drink now through 2014.
Thanks!
