I picked up the Applewood Winery Riesling when I visited the winery after apple picking last fall. Applewood buys the grapes for this wine from growers in New York State. Neither vintage nor alcoholic strength are mentioned on the label. The blue bottle clearly tries to appeal to fans/victims of Blue Nun. Despite many flags being raised I bought a bottle simply because apple picking had put me in such a good mood.

The wine itself has a light floral, almost perfumed aroma and smells a bit like wet leaves with a hint of apples. I know that sounds awfully negative, but it is not unpleasant. On the palate this Riesling is dry, has medium acidity but, unfortunately, not much else. It is also slightly perfumed on the palate, which I find a bit difficult to get used to. Indeed, it tastes very much like perfumed grapes. The alcohol is medium high and the length is short.

A very basic Riesling which does not have much of a Riesling character, unfortunately. Yet I will go back to Applewood again this year, to pick apples.
